Network - THEMATIC PROJECT

From Ireland to Brazil: Critical Texts

Funding: FAPESP

Period: Nov. 2006 – Oct. 2008

The project entitled “From Ireland to Brazil: Critical Texts” is an integrated research to be developed by professors and scholars from five Brazilian universities: Munira H. Mutran e Laura Izarra – University of São Paulo (USP); Noélia Borges de Araújo – Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Peter James Harris – State University of São Paulo (UNESP/SJ Rio Preto), Luci Collin Lavalle – Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and  Heleno Godói – Federal University of Goiás (UFGO); one Master and three Doctors graduated at the Postgraduate Programme of Estudos Lingüísticos e Literários em Inglês at USP, three postgraduate students and two academic technicians. This Project focuses on two moments of the Irish Literary Renaissance in the turn of the nineteenth century and the twentieth century. Its aim is to examine different critical trends in fiction, drama and poetry developed by important Irish writers and critics and those trends present in the cultural diaspora in order to select the aesthetic elements that could renew the literary critical debate in Brazil. The relevant material will be translated and published as an anthology and thematic books and a website will be developed to offer to the general public access to digital material on Irish culture.

This Project will offer a national Symposium every year to promote interdisciplinary academic activities on Irish Studies in Brazil.
