Ciclo de leituras e debates: Peças inéditas de George Bernard Shaw

A peça "O Fantástico Reparador de Feridas", de Brian Friel, dirigida por Domingos Nunez, aclamada pela crítica, está agora em nova temporada no Teatro Next, às segundas e terças, às 21hs.

WILLIAM B. YEATS CHAIR OF IRISH STUDIES

On 29th September 2009, the UNIVERSIDADE DE SÃO PAULO (USP), Brazil, 

represented by its Vice-President, Franco Maria Lajolo and by the Dean of the Faculty

of Humanities (FFLCH), Sandra Margarida Nitrini, and the EMBASSY OF IRELAND,

in Brazil, represented by the Ambassador Michael Hoey, signed the Agreement for the

establishment of the William B. Yeats Chair of Irish Studies to promote further

cooperation between the Embassy of Ireland and the University of São Paulo.

The Chair is coordinated by Professor Laura P. Z. Izarra; Professor Honoris Causa by

the National University of Ireland/Maynooth Munira H. Mutran will be its guest Director.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP

In gratitude for his contribution in the consolidation of Irish Studies in Brazil with the

establishment of the Chair of Irish Studies William Butler Yeats in the Faculty of

Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo, ABEI

granted an Honorary Membership to Ambassador Michael Hoey

on September 29th, 2009.

FOURTH INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR OF IRISH STUDIES AT USP

The fourth International Seminar of Irish Studies was held at the University of São Paulo

on September 14th, 2009. It was sponsored by the Postgraduate Programme of Linguistic

and Literary Studies in English at the Department of Modern Languages, the Brazilian

Association of Irish Studies (ABEI) and Culture Ireland.

The guest speakers were Fintan O’Toole (journalist and cultural critic of The Irish Times),

Maureen Murphy (Hofstra University, New York), Wolfgang Zach (Innsbruck University,

Austria), Adriana Bebiano (University of Coimbra, Portugal), Marisol Morales Ladrón

(University of Alcalá de Henares, Spain) and Chris Ackerley (University of Otago, New

Lançamento ABEI Journal

Edição Especial de Aniversário

 

 

Associação Brasileira de Estudos Irlandeses (ABEI) agradece a participação de todos no lançamento do ABEI Journal em seu 10º. ano de publicação. O evento foi parte do Festival de Cultura Irlandesa, e contou com uma breve apresentação da Profa. Laura Izarra,  a que se seguiu a abertura da exposição “Imagens e Palavras”.

Um Grito no Céu  by Vincent Woods - 2008

 

 

Cia Ludens, a professional Theatre company founded in 2002 with the sole purpose of translating and staging Irish plays in Brazil was recently granted with financial support to make viable some of its projects.

 

 The company won  the ProAC para Incentivos de Festivais de Arte Award  by Secretaria Estadual de Cultura to produce a staged reading entitled "Terceiro Ciclo de Leitura: Quatro Textos Curtos e Inéditos de Bernard Shaw". The four texts will be published by Musa Editora, with an introduction by Rosalie Rahal Haddad. Both events will occur in the first semester of 2009.

 

The company also had its project "O Fantástico Reparador de Feridas" selected for the 13th Cultura Inglesa Festival. Translated from Friel´s original "Faith Healer", it was performed from May 7 to May 10 at Teatro da Cultura Inglesa.

 

For the second semester, with the facilities of Lei Roaunet and private resources the Company will produce its major project for this year; "Um Grito do Céu", a translation from Vincent Wood's "A Cry From Heaven".


Domingos Nunez is the artistic director of the Company.
